Bracelets

Wood bracelets are a wonderful piece of jewelry. Ask anyone that wears bracelets if they'd like one of out of wood and I'm certain that you'll get a positive response!

Wood, being a nature product, has a wonderful feel to it and it's weight is almost always proportional to it's appearance. So, a wood bracelet is normally a wonderfully balanced piece of jewelry.

Bracelets are turned as a faceplate turning, meaning with the grain running perpendicular to the lathe bed. They use standard tools including bowl gouge and parting tools. You might choose to use some detailing tools too!

Bracelets can be single wood in either plain finish or they can be embellished with wood burning, inlays or even inserted gems. They can also be multiple woods like laminations or even segmented turnings. Since they are usually worn for decoration, you can go wild with ideas on how to dress them up!!

In this photo tutorial, Gary's first project shows how turn a solid wood bracelet. He does an excellent job of photographing the steps to the work holding to ensure that you can turn both sides of the bracelet for the best finished item.

Then Gary shows how to cut a dado into the side of the bracelet to insert an inlay which really dresses up a single wood bracelet. Not to be outdone, Gary then shows how to make a segmented wood bracelet which would let to all kinds of designs for bracelets!

And finally Gary shows how he applies finish to the bracelet to make it ready for wearing including showing a wonderful holding jig.

This project ends up showing you how to turn 3 different types of bracelets!
