Coffee Cups

Practical woodturnings are always popular! They are great to use as you get the feel of wood in your hand. And they are a wonderful way to tell and show people that you're a woodturner.

In this great photo tutorial, Bill Young shows us how he makes a coffee cup with a wood turned exterior and one of the fancy stainless steel inserts. Bill makes this one for staves but tells us that it could have also be made from a solid block of wood. Bill's excellent photography allows you to see each step along the way making it easier for you to give this project a try. Bill also gives you a link to a source for the stainless steel inserts.

Malcolm Tibbetts shows us how he makes wood-turned, insulated travel mugs in this wonderful tutorial. Malcolm is most famous as a segmented turner and in this tutorial, shows us the techniques to make these travel mugs which can be done as a single piece of wood or some form of glue-up; lamination or segmented! This tutorial was originally released in the American Association of Woodturners' (AAW) American Woodturner magazine in the Winter 2007 edition. If you're a coffee lover and want that "wood feel" or to show people that you're a woodturner, this might be the project for you!!
