Knives Another functional item that few of us think about as turners is knives. Most knife handles are wood. And being wood, they can be turned. So, this section is dedicated to using a turned knife instead of a solely carved or sanded one! | | Jazzing Up a Hobby Knife by Kurt Hertzog | This project is another great example on how to take an object from our normal day-to-day use and to turn it into a turning project. To me, anything is better with a wooden handle. And even better when I can do it myself!!
This project is also a wonderful learning experience! Not only do you turn the handle, you get to work with grain matching, mounting accuracy, making your own "custom home made" mounting system and even to thinking about the process flow to get the steps of the project in the right order!
I've now purchased all the local knives that I can find which enables me to send one of these to my father for Father's Day, and gives me a head start on my Christmas list already!!
