Rings Woodturning jewelry is not new. Many of us have seen earrings, necklaces and things like that. But have you considered a wood turned ring?
When I first thought of rings, I thought that they would be fragile. But I'm assured that they are not if you understand how to orient the wood and use good planning. One of the ways that I've seen to strengthen rings is to laminate the wood. Another is to use metal inserts or inlays. And I've also seen wood inlays as a strengthening vehicle.
Knowing that other people have made rings should give you some confidence to try it yourself!! | | Turning a Wood Ring with a Veneer Inlay by Francois Audeon | In this detailed photo tutorial, Francois shows us how he makes a custom sized wood ring on the lathe. He uses a veneer inlay to provide beauty by creating contrast to the ring basis wood. It also strengthens the ring sufficiently that he can not break them between his fingers!
To me, he's got a winner!! Now it's time for you to try it out!! |
