Soapstone Soapstone is a wonderful quarried stone that is soft enough to turn with HSS and Carbide tools. So, it's a great alternative material to wood. And basically any shaped vessel that you can make in wood, you can make in soapstone.
Each quarry's soapstone is different. Different in composition, color and final appearance! And in my opinion, it's beautiful just like all the varieties of wood! | Turning Soapstone Vessels by Phil Manzi | | In this photo tutorial, Phil shows how he turns soapstone. He shows how to mount a base to the soapstone and how he shapes the vessels. If you're new to Soapstone as a turning material, this tutorial will show you all the main steps! |
