Hi Everyone,

I recently found out that one of our fellow Woodturners and one of my friends, Phil Manzi needs our help.

Phil is a long time friend of WTO. In fact, he wrote one of our early articles on turning soapstone. I first met Phil and spent time with him at the Totally Turning symposiums in Albany, New York. Phil favored miniatures and would always have a shirt pocket filled with fantastically details miniatures. At that time, he and his wife lived in a small apartment and Phil turned in a spare bedroom after covering the rug with plastic.

Phil works as a print machine operator for a company in Boston, Mass. that prints company brochures and annual reports. He works on the 3rd shift which means that he turns during the day. He's always favored miniatures but has lately also done some nice segmented turning.

Phil was recently rushed to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy and while the doctors were performing it, noticed kidney cancer. The doctor's are now treating him for the cancer, and he's trying to heal and recover. As you can expect, being out of work has been hard financially on him and his wife.

Some of the other wood turning forums have been soliciting donations to help the Manzi’s pay their bills, help with food costs, and costs associated with Phil's recovery. I would like to support these efforts by making those same donation resources available here.

If you would like to learn more, here is the link to the first forum thread:

Here is a link to a gallery of Phil’s turnings.

If you can see your way to making a donation, you can do it in one of 4 ways:

1) PayPal donations can be sent to:
mdauph@bellsouth.net

2) If you would like to donate by check, please send it to Mike Lawler:

3) You can make a donation by purchasing a donated wood turned item:
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=8257322

4) And you can make a donation by either offering a wood working or wood turning item donation or you can purchase a donated wood working or wood turning item at this forum:

Thank you for your consideration and understanding,

Dennis and Richard

Very Generous, Thank you.

Still available in the swap and sell thread linked to is a full day private or semi-private lesson with Bill Grumbine IN HIS SHOP.

Pats_Fan aka Patsfan aka Mike Lawler.

I can tell you that donations large and small, prayers or well wishes alike will really help.

Mike

Thank you for posting this. Phil has been a turning mentor and more importantly a friend to many folks on the different forums. Those of us who have been fortunate enough to stand at his elbow at a lathe have been truley blessed.

I would like to make one correction. The turnings on the Etsy site are not Phils. Some of us donated turnings and are taking orders for turnings with the proceeds going to Phil.

Thank you all again for your help.

I'd like to thank everybody for their help, it's been a tough time for my wife and me.
