Hi Everyone,
I recently found out that one of our fellow Woodturners and one of my friends, Phil Manzi needs our help.
Phil is a long time friend of WTO. In fact, he wrote one of our early articles on turning soapstone. I first met Phil and spent time with him at the Totally Turning symposiums in Albany, New York. Phil favored miniatures and would always have a shirt pocket filled with fantastically details miniatures. At that time, he and his wife lived in a small apartment and Phil turned in a spare bedroom after covering the rug with plastic.
Phil works as a print machine operator for a company in Boston, Mass. that prints company brochures and annual reports. He works on the 3rd shift which means that he turns during the day. He's always favored miniatures but has lately also done some nice segmented turning.
Phil was recently rushed to the hospital for an emergency appendectomy and while the doctors were performing it, noticed kidney cancer. The doctor's are now treating him for the cancer, and he's trying to heal and recover. As you can expect, being out of work has been hard financially on him and his wife.
Some of the other wood turning forums have been soliciting donations to help the Manzi’s pay their bills, help with food costs, and costs associated with Phil's recovery. I would like to support these efforts by making those same donation resources available here.
