After reading some comments on this forum about chucks, I purchase a Nova G3 chuck for my Delta 1440 ironbed lathe. I noticed a slight wobble, which when measured with a digital gauge, was just over 1/64"or 0.021. There is a "very slight" headstock vibration which has me concerned about wear on the spindle bearings. Is this normal for this chuck and does anyone else have this problem or is this actually no problem. I should add, with the spur drive or faceplate, there is also a slight vibration on the headstock..John

Hmm, I don't have any experience but you might want to chat with Teknatool about it.

Keep your return date in mind in case you decide to return it...

It is not normal. The chuck should run true. I would remove the insert and put it in again. If you still get some wobble, take it back to the dealer. Chances are it is the insert. I have heard that occasionally someone will get a bad one. The G3 is a good chuck. The dealer should make it right with no problem.

After some E-mail exchanges with Teknatool, they determined that the insert was the problem. The vendor that I bought it from said that they would send me a replacement, however, inserts were on back order. That was on 29 Jan., and they were still not in as of a few days ago, 19 March. I had lost my patience with them and ordered another from WoodCraft in which was at my door the next day. The chuck is now running true and the worm screw is dead on in the chuck. mpax356 was right about the insert being bad. There is evidently two types of inserts for the 1x8 lathe spindle. One is a straight 1x8 RH "or" LH and the other is a 1x8 RH&LH, both in one.The latter being is what WoodCraft sent me, it had a good feel on the lathe spindle and with the chuck being screwed on. As for the vendor, they have been dropped from my list. Don't like being told ''its being shipped today" when you don't even have it in the warehouse. Also, sure do wish Teknatool had a 800 number, for a troubleshooting rep.........John

"Phone Tim Geist on (304) 295-8166 or email to Tvgeistmfg@aol.com. Hours of Operation: 6:00am - 2:30pm Eastern Standard Time. Website: www.timstoolcrib.com"

The Teknatool website is a disaster area.
