in the workshop today this week i turned a Tealight holder out of plum wood i think it was. this tealights holder is to be situated in the bar outside to keep the Mosquito's away while we partake in a few alcoholic beverages because no one likes a mosquito bite haha! , as always my choice of woodturning tools are the easy wood tools carbide turning tools, and the wood lathe i used was my record power coronet herald lathe. i didnt get it the usual finish and it was a yard project so i just finished it with Yorkshire grit and left it with that, the beeswax in that will be plenty good for protec

Wood Turning a Tealight from a Burnt Madrone Branch
By: ThePapa1947
July 19, 2019 · 3,749 views

An odd looking madrone branch that ended up as a tealight. I had no idea what I would get out of it but I wanted to make something for the friend that gave it to me. I gave it to him and they both love it. It was one of those pieces that are hard to part with. But I started out making it for them and I am glad I did. The good news is they are headed to their cabin and he plans to bring back more wood. Wood Turning - A Tealight holder, from a goblet, from a log (The Devils Tealight Holder)
By: MG Makes
February 01, 2019 · 316 views

Welcome Back, Another Week, Another learning experience. This week started out with me wanting to turn a goblet, further improve my skills and hone my ability to visualise what potential my chosen chunk of wood held. Instead I present you with the “Devils Tealight holder”. To be fair, I really like how it ended up. But the journey getting there was a little bumpy to say the least. The main issue i encountered was my own fault, I ran the tooling “uphill”, this resulted in the “catch” and the whole plan went out of the window. As after the catch i was unable to seat the piece centrally back

Wood turning - A Banksia Pod and Mahogany Tealight holder
By: MG Makes
December 08, 2018 · 337 views

Welcome Back, Well this week I wanted to play with a Banksia Pod. As they are strange looking things i wanted to create something beautiful. With that in mind, I present you the Banksia Pod Tealight holder. There are a lot of things to consider, the seeds flying out, the velvety midway just before the hard interior. There were a lot of iterations, that got thrown out before this one. But then that is half the fun, watching projects evolve from paper to real life. Thanks for watching and stay safe. Yes I know i will not be doing some things correctly, I will be making mistakes, but i wi

Christmas Tea Light Holder - 2017 Challenge
By: Stewart Furini
November 26, 2017 · 7,924 views

This is my entry for the 2017 Christmas Ornament Challenge run by Alan Stratton and Carl Jacobson - details below. I had to do something coloured, of course! A bit smaller than my 12 inch platters, this one. There was a very misjudged attempt to put a centrifugal paint effect on it - I've kept it in as it shows how to get back from a disaster (sandpaper is your friend here...). The final finish, after the stains, is some Liberon gilt wax and Chesnut's Microcrystalline Wax. 2017 Christmas Ornament Challenge - http://www.aswoodturns.com/Challenges/ Alan Stratton: https://www.youtube.com/user/A

February 27, 2017 · 4,244 views

Hi Apologies for making another tealight holder, but I hope you find the Milliput stage interesting. If you have any questions or suggestions, please leave a comment and I'll get back to you. Also, many thanks to those that have subscribed to my channel. I hope to get another project completed this week. I'm not sure what it will be, but at the moment I'm thinking on the lines of a textured/patterned bowl. Finally, if there are any other turners living near Tadcaster, North Yorkshire that would like to get together and exchange ideas, please get in touch. Happy turning! Cheers. Hi I attended the North Yorkshire Woodworking Club meeting near Thirsk a couple of weeks ago, and David Lowe was the guest demonstrator. I was particularly impressed with the tealight holder he created and this inspired me to have a go. I'm a novice woodturner and I'm keen to try out new techniques. It was a very enjoyable little project and I hope there is something in my video that is of interest to you. If you have any questions, please leave me a message and I'll try to answer. I'm also open to any advice and guidance you can give me. Many thanks to David Lowe RPT. Happy turning! Disclamer: I do not recommend any of the methods/techniques I use as these could be unsafe. Gouges are the staple of woodturning. In this video i use two gouges, a spindle gouge and a bowl gouge. Using a gouge is fun. sharpening, well, not so much. It takes some getting used to. Here it is: https://youtu.be/4OvlmGUYINI The Tea Light Holder is made from spalted birch. Very punky stuff. I wasn't able to get rid of the extreme tearout. We'll just call that 'rustic'. Well now! This has been a bit of a challenge! I thought it should work and I have plans to try another one soon! This was a little longer than normal and I hope you will forgive me! It seemed to me that I could either show how the process went or I could just show pictures of how it turned out! There didn't seem to be a happy medium! So I chose to show the things I came up against and how they were dealt with. In addition to the valentine's thing here... I have a special celebration going on here too... The counter just turned over 3000 subscribers! My thanks to each and every one of you! And

Woodturn Natural Edge Winged Tea Light From Fig
By: As Wood Turns
February 05, 2015 · 2,908 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com This wood came from a fig tree in my front yard. It's a small limb but had to go. I've never turned fig nor heard of anyone turning it. But why not try. Although it's small, it is large enough for a simple tea light. I did not want to just rip the limb in half. I wanted the top surface to be the natural bark from the fig then bend around to a flat on the bottom. This tea light base is 5 inches long and about 2.5 inches in diameter. The light is a battery operated LED tea light. I'd never put a wax candle in a wooden holder. Since the wood is very green or wet it did not absorb much walnut oil. After it dries, I'll apply more oil. then we'll also see how fig turns out. Enter your email at http://www.AsWoodTurns.com & I'll let you know when the next easy woodturning project video is ready. Woodturning A Hollow Reversible Tea Light
By: As Wood Turns
September 11, 2014 · 7,540 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com After I made the UFO spaceship for E.T. a few weeks ago, a viewer suggested it could also be a tea light. Well, how do you turn a UFO into a tea light? Tough question. So, I started over with a new piece of walnut about 7' x 3'. I wanted a recess to hold a LED tea light. As the design evolved, I realized it could also be reversible. I've hollowed out the interior to make the form very light. However, there is no access to the interior. How did I do that? Segmented Tea Light - More Safe Than Eccentric
By: As Wood Turns
May 31, 2013 · 10,221 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com Rather than respond to the challenge of an eccentric tea light, I choose to turn a open segmented tea light with a bonus saucer to set it on. The style of segmentation is called open segment meaning that there are gaps between the segments making up the ring. However, nearly every open segment requires a couple of closed segment rings for a top and/or bottom. Closed segment is where there are no gaps between the segments. This tea light has a base of solid walnut; 6 open segment rings of walnut each containing 18 segments; and 1 closed segment ring of maple containing 12 segments. There is a total of 121 pieces. It is finished with walnut oil. The saucer has a base of solid walnut and 1 closed segment ring of 12 segments for a total of 13 pieces. Together there are 134 pieces. The saucer is finished with walnut oil. Enter your email at http://www.AsWoodTurns.com & I'll let you know when the next woodturning project video is ready.
