Bowl from a Board
By: Steve Lindsley
April 02, 2017 · 38,660 views

I wanted to try and make a bowl from a board that had a little flair to it. I've used this technique to make a bowl in the past but it was from a solid piece of wood. For this project I glued up some scrap into a board. I was inspired by a chapter in Jim Rogers' book 'The Fundamentals of Segmented Wood Turning'. Jim goes over most of what's in the book on his Craftsy video. I'll put a link below. If you already know how to make a bowl from a board then this video probably won't tell you anything new. If you've not attempted a bowl from a board maybe this video will be helpful. I'm sure there are plenty of others on YouTube as well. I hope you enjoy the video. Comments are always welcome. Thanks! Inner Lipped Pallet Bowl - Episode 15
By: Paul Lockwood
July 26, 2016 · 1,949 views

Using nothing but Pallet wood this project took a lot of preperation hours. Two pallets were stripped at work during lunchtimes. Fortunatley one of these the slats were all hardwood. Over a course of another couple of days all the slats and supports were then planed down (link below). These were then cut to find the best pieces of timber and over the course of the next 4 days were glued together to create the blanks. With the softwood being so soft the main worry was the blank spinning off a worm screw. As a backup I could use a faceplate, but I've never used one so far. Working towards the h

Shiplap Bowl - Episode 9
By: Paul Lockwood
July 01, 2016 · 711 views

Sticking with my usual soft wood, this time I have used a 3M length of shiplap board. Ripping this down into 200x65mm lengths and gluing them together to create the final blank. Preparation work took place over three days to produce the blank before it finally went on the lathe. Even though this is soft wood, the turning was very slow and hard work. There was tear out at times mainly because of trying to take too much out at a time. The final finish was very smooth and clean and I am very pleased with the final result which had two coats of sanding sealer and woodwax 22. Shiplap Pieces - Episode 6
By: Paul Lockwood
June 22, 2016 · 258 views

Using scraps of Shiplap boards, I glued these together to create one blank. Chopping the corners off on the mitre saw and then mounting on the lathe via the worm screw. Surprisingly these turned pretty well. There was very little tear out and where it did have a smooth surface was a great finish. Only sanded to 240 grit as this is a softwood.
