Mesquite Burl Bowl
By: Cip's Wood Chips
December 27, 2013 · 72,386 views

This Mesquite Burl was very old and very dry making turning slow and tedious. Portions of the burl decayed and heavily damaged by insects. All these factors contributed to a very unique piece of timber. Originally filmed in October 5, 2013.

Turning a Large Maple Burl Bowl
By: Getting0Done
January 29, 2012 · 46,022 views

From start to finish, starting as a chunk of wood in my workshop then trimmed, carved, sanded and finished to a beautiful bowl. This piece was actually quite difficult as the core was spalted and starting to rot. So, I had to be careful not to sand it to hard as parts of the bowl will sand away very quickly compared to the hard maple. Beautiful piece of wood though from a dead standing maple on a friends property. I also decided to go with a rub-on polyurethane to help stabilize the rotting core, I usually like to use oil for these kinds of bowls but I was kind of testing the finish for some of my larger vessels I plan on doing. Hope you enjoyed the video and remember to rate, comment and subscribe! PS. I am always looking for feedback, ideas, tips, filming recommendations, anything so feel free to comment or contact me through my channel.

I have for some time wanted to turn a burl like this. I tried to capture the amazing figure by cutting at various depths and angles.
