How to Make a Shallow Burl Bowl
By: Moonpie Creations
June 29, 2018 · 128 views

I got a new lathe (the Laguna Revo 1836)and decided to give it a run through. In this video I make a shallow bowl out of a piece of burl I found on a clear cutting logging operation landing. I was not sure this one would turn out, but in the end it was pretty cool. This wood is poplar and has some great features. Thank you for watching and feel free to comment and share. Woodturning - Wild Diseased Chokecherry Bowl (Design Challenges)
By: Woodturner Ky
June 29, 2018 · 1,516 views

In this video we turn a nasty section of Chokecherry into art. The wood was dry, hard, and full of knots and changes in grain direction. I did not know what this piece was going to be, and to be honest, the idea I had pondered at the beginning was nothing like the finished piece. This was both a challenge and thrill in creativity. Pecan Wood Crouch Bowl
By: Cip's Wood Chips
February 01, 2018 · 2,390 views

I want to show you how I made this beautiful bowl from a Pecan crouch salvaged from local storm damage. This is my first video for 2018 and I hope you find it useful and enjoyable to watch. I mostly used a round carbide tip Easy Tool and a 1 inch round-nose scraper. The timber was very out-of-balance so it was slow turning. Sanded with 120, 150, and 220 grit sandpaper. It was finished with lacquer based sanding sealer and rub-on polyurethane.

Woodturning - California Buckeye Burl Winged Bowl - Sawdust Factory Woodturning
By: Josh Bayer
October 01, 2017 · 1,235 views

In this video i finish the bottom on a winged bowl. The bowl was turned about 6 months ago from a burl of California Buckeye. I left a small section unfinished since it was so unsupported from the main bowl. I've held off on finishing the piece till now. I acquired the wood when I purchased some redwood slabs off a guy in Central Ohio. I still haven't used those slabs for anything. Maybe they will make their way onto the lathe in a future episode. Hope you enjoy the woodturning. Check out my channel for other woodturning videos. and Please subscribe.

My first attempt at a winged bowl. It's more a platter because the blank I used was only 1.5' thick. I used a 4'x8' block of quartersawn mahogany that has a lot of chatoyance and the figure shows up nicely.

Winged burl bowls are one of my favorite things to turn. I decided to do a quick sped up video of me turning one. I sanded it up to 1200 grit and I used a no nose rubber chucky jam chuck to finish off the bottom. This bowl is made from big leaf maple Burl, and is about 12'x5'x2'. Oak Winged Bowl - Episode 59
By: Paul Lockwood
February 18, 2017 · 814 views

I've seen a few of these made in the past and recently watched a video from Dave Capper-Sandon at Turning Works which got me thinking about doing one again. I still have a lot of oak that is partially wet. So the idea here was to make the wings thin so that they pickup the most distortion from drying. Oddly the reading went from 20% one side down to 12% the other, so only time will tell. The whole piece was sanded down to 600, two coats of sanding sealer and finished off with two coats of Woodwax 22. Winged Natural Edge Bowl - Woodturning #9
By: Alan Hefner
January 22, 2017 · 263 views

This bowl was made from a bradford pear tree that came down from a storm. The log was a crouch piece of wood and it was also filled with some powder post beetles that made some really need holes and tunnels in the wood. I took a pick and spent several hours cleaning the saw dust out of the holes that the beetles made. Overall this piece turned out really nice. Three weeks experimenting with various shapes, forms and materials, this is what happened after one such experiment came of the lathe at 1800 RPM and hit me in the face! Wood turning 101 - wear your face mask! The shape forced itself into my imagination, as this project is what I came up with next! I hope you enjoy it - and don't forget to watch (at the end) how much fun hand sanding can actually be!!! (All alcohol was consumed AFTER I had totally finished the project!) Woodturning a porch post (2nd of 2) into a winged bowl
By: Ray MAKES
February 21, 2016 · 451 views

This was a little exercise (the 2nd in fact) of turning a piece of a porch post, which was part of the family house, into a useful object. i didnt have a preconceived notion of what the shape was going to be, but this is the result. the porch post has been on the house for 110 years and it was made form old growth pine that itself was over 100 years old. this is the 2nd project from this post, the third will be a bit more interesting and ambitions. this 'winged bowl' is actually used in upside down fashion as a candle holding platform. i think it has a bit of a 1970's feel which i like.

This was my first attempt to turn a 3 winged bowl form a 5x5 cube I must say that it turned out to be more challenging than my abilities. I show all the steps I had to take to make this. And they say 3 times is a charm. Good tutorial even with the mishap. My compliments to Stephen Ogle and Bob Hamilton for the inspiration piece. I will have to make another very soon.
