Woodturning Stunning Elm Burl becomes Bud Vase ·
By: Nathan Cumming
August 06, 2017 · 5,699 views

In this video i mill an 80mmx80mmx220mm spindle blank from a seasoned Elm Burl and turn it into a Bud Vase. I begin by milling the burl on the bandsaw to square a piece for the lathe. Once the piece is mounted on the lathe and brought to round I turn a tenon on one end to mount the piece in my chuck so I can bore a 20mm hole down what will be the neck of the vase. With the hole bored I'm then able to start removing waste material. As I begin turning I discover that there are some severe cracks through the piece where it has moved while drying. I stabilise the cracks in the neck with epoxy an

Anxiously Watching For Spring - A Natural Edge Bud Vase ·
By: As Wood Turns
March 17, 2017 · 3,187 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com Where I live the snow has melted and early flowers are blooming. I have spring fever especially from being cooped up after my ski accident. I found a hazelnut sucker I pruned off last spring and determined to turn a bud vase to welcome spring. The hazelnut was a perfect size for a small bud vase that could keep some of its bark as a natural edge. Hazelwood is very light colored. I plan to use any I can salvage as a replacement for holly. My bud vase is about 4 inches tall and 1 1/2 inches in diameter. It is finished with shellac friction polish. I welcome spring. Good turning. My turners club started a monthly contest where we have a project and everyone interested attempts to turn it then we bring them to show-n-tell at the next meeting. The idea is to get more turners participating as well as to force you outside of your comfort zone to learn new things. This month we turned a bud vase or weed pot. It was difficult as I am primarily set up for pen turning but it was fun and this is my vase. Spalted Beech Bud Vase - Episode 29 ·
By: Paul Lockwood
September 16, 2016 · 455 views

My first ever go at turning Oak. Until now I've never turned anything other than softwood left over form the workshop build, pallet wood and just about anything I could find. I think that Pine has a very nice grain to it especially when you give the piece a little colour. When I turned the Oak I was amazed at just how nice the grain is. The finish was Shellac Sanding Sealer and two coats Woodwax 22. Woodturning Eccentric Twig Vase With Infinite Axis Chuck ·
By: As Wood Turns
July 01, 2016 · 1,639 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com I'm still exploring different ways to use the Infinite Axis Chuck. In this video, I turn twig vase or bud vase from apple limb wood finished with a mix of beeswax and mineral oil. In eccentric turnings, having tail stock pressure provides both security to the wood and can be used to define axis offsets. However, if the turning is small or at least the top of the turning is small, tail stock adjustment is limited or cannot be used at all. To counter these issues, I turned a large plug with a tenon or dowel on one side. In use, the dowel or tenon is inserted into the

Wood Turning a Three Ring Bud Vase ·

Woodturning a 3 Sided Bud Vase ·
By: Jerry Paul
January 29, 2016 · 4,133 views

This didn't quite work out as planned.... This is the first time I tried to make something symmetrical using my method of eccentric turning where I use only 2 of the 4 jaws in my chuck. ... That worked great - it was keeping consistent on each side that I had trouble with. It all ended well, with the finished product being a little different than originally planned... O.k., quite a bit different, LOL, but it can still function as a bud vase. A WARNING TO THE EASILY OFFENDED!! - I couldn't help at the end of the video but describe what I thought the end result seemed to resemble. (its a bit phallic) LOL Enjoy!!

Woodturning An Eccentric Or Multi Axis Bud Vase ·
By: As Wood Turns
August 14, 2015 · 2,983 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com This bud vase is spalted birch harvested about a year ago. It is an eccentric turning on four axes: Main and offset by 3/8 inch at 120 degree intervals. A year ago, I rough turned it round and waxed it. It has been laying around my shop since then. It is about five inches tall and two inches in diameter, finished with beeswax and mineral oil followed by buffing. Initially, I envisioned it taller with a neck about three inches longer. But when it neared completion, it did not look right -- so I turned off the neck. Much better without. I turned two coves on two offset axes followed by a large bead on the final offset axis. It was fun. Good turning. Enter your email at http://www.AsWoodTurns.com & I'll let you know when the next easy woodturning project video is ready. Carl Jacobson, Came to visit me and to spend some time together in 'My Little Wood Shop'. Things didn't go exactly as planned, but we had a great time while Carl turned a Weed-Pot from an exotic wood, on my lathe. Some of the most beautiful wood I have ever seen. Suspect that it may be a teak wood.

Taking you from start to finish with a ruff piece of wood to your sanded and finished project. This wood turning project takes about 20 min. This is from a reclaimed wood. I am not certain about the species of the wood. Very hard wood with a beautiful grain that finished up nicely. This is great fast gift idea for dried or fresh flowers when you have a glass vial to insert. These can be found most local craft stores. - - - - - - Please watch: 'Wood Turning' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v ig3HuD2qcds - - - - - -
