Applying wipe on poly to a decorative birch dish ... this is the way personally that I apply wipe on poly to my turnings . its a very easy process but time consuming . the hardest part by far is just patience waiting out the drying time between coats but the end result is very worth it in my opinion . you can achieve a mirror finish with the right amount of coats without needing any type of buffing system with no more then a paper towel .....enjoy , be safe and I hope this is helpful

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com It's time for me to upgrade my wood finish containers. I typically use walnut oil or a mix of beeswax and mineral for projects needing to be food safe. Otherwise, for large projects, I use walnut oil or lacquer or the beeswax and mineral oil mix. For small projects, I use shellac friction polish, lacquer, or the beeswax and mineral oil. The beeswax and mineral oil mixture also serves as a sanding media at times. For the mix, I heat 1 pint mineral oil in a double boiler. To this I add 1/4 pound of beeswax chopped up. Once the beeswax is fully melted, I let cool but

Microcrystalline Wax - Part 5 - Summary of Results

December 28, 2016 · 873 views

This is part 5 of a series of videos about micro- crystalline wax. The series is a breakdown of my original video 'Microcrystalline Wax: Just How Small Is It, Anyway'. The original video was WAY too long, so I am breaking it down into bite-size pieces. In this, the final piece, I summarize what I think I found out about microcrystalline wax. Part 1 of the series discusses microcrystalline wax and why you might want to use it. Part 2 of the series shows my testing of micro- crystalline wax for brilliance (how shiny its finish is). Part 3 of the series shows my testing of micro- crystalline wax for fingerprint and wear resistance. Part 4 of the series shows my testing of micro- crystalline wax for moisture resistance. Hut Ultra Gloss vs PlastX
By: RJBWoodTurner
October 22, 2016 · 2,540 views

People keep telling me about PlastX polish for polishing pens. I have used Hut Ultra Gloss for a long time and really like the product. Curiosity got the best of me so I purchased a bottle of PlastX and decided to try it next to Hut. Personally I cant tell a difference, both performed extremely well and gave me the result I look for in a pen. I plan to use the PlastX exclusively for a period of time to see if my opinion changes but for now, I say they are equal and I'd buy the cheaper of the two products. Airbrush Acrylic Finish To Enhance Plain Wood Plate

January 01, 2016 · 3,731 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com Happy New Year. I started work on this poplar dish to prepare for a airbrush workshop taught by Jay Shepherd at Williamette Valley Woodturners. The poplar is approximately 9' diameter and 2' tall. Initially, I finished it with shellac friction polish to seal the wood. Then at Jay Shepherd's workshop, he recommended that I paint only the interior of the dish with an iridescent brown acrylic paint with my airbrush. That part was easy. The harder part then is to apply a rattle can clear lacquer and wet sand between every 6 to 10 coats. I've made it thru 220 grit wet

Finishing Pens with CA Glue
By: RJBWoodTurner
June 30, 2014 · 38,852 views

I have been asked several times what my procedure is for applying a C/A glue finish to my pens. This video shows what I do pretty much in real time. I use a thin C/A glue, once applied to the pen blank it dries in 15 to 20 seconds. Generally I apply six coats of glue in sets of three coats at a time with light sanding between coats. If the blank if really porous, I will continue to apply more C/A until I get a smooth surface on the pen. the maximum number of coats I have applied is twelve.
