Frankenlathe 2 - Mega Log Lathe Upgrade
By: Mark Presling
August 13, 2015 · 1,084 views

In this video we look at the upgrades to the mega log lathe and discuss details about it's construction and operation. It's called the Frankenlathe because it is basically a cobbled together collection of scrap universal beam, cut up barbecue plates, a front wheel hub from a Toyota 4WD, a tailstock and compound slide from a soviet era Russian metal lathe, a vintage Towa electric planer and even a gearbox from a 1950's electromechanical dentist's chair. We will demonstrate the chain driven linear motion for the travelling toolrest and planer head and the integrated crane used to load and unload stock. Enjoy!

DIY mega log lathe. Built from scrap and manufactured parts. The log will be trimmed using an electric planer held on a spigot in the cross slide. After reducing the log to an accurate cylinder, hand shaping will be done with conventional hand held lathe tools with a tool rest mounted on the cross slide. The cross slide runs of two lengths of angle iron, one welded either side of the C channel bed. Vee rollers from aluminium castings ride on the ridge of the angle iron to guide the cross slide along the length of the bed.

Small Workbench Part 2 The Top
By: H F Bowern Designs - Harold Bowern
December 05, 2014 · 14,678 views

Well this week I am building a small workbench to add to a stand I had my lathe on. This is simple structure, made from Baltic Birch plywood, with duel thickness on the top side and the middle support. I later wrapped the top portion with poplar and added a false MDF top. The idea of the small bench is that it can be moved between workbenches to bring the projects closer to my eyes, and as I am getting older, I would like not to bend so much. This video I take you through the steps in making the top.. I also show you my Zyliss portable bench vise I got many years ago. It has lots of fea

Torno caseiro, Homemade wood lathe.
