Woodturning an Ice Fishing Lure Part 2
By: Geiserwoodturner
January 25, 2019 · 92 views

This is a continuation of my previous video on how to turn an Ice fishing lure on a wood lathe. In this how to video I show how I assemble and finish the lure now that we have the maple body done. This video starts right where the last one left off. First I need to drill holes in the lure for all of the parts and fish hooks. I use a pullsaw to cut a slot for the tail fin. Soon it's on to the assembly with 5 minute epoxy. When everything is cured it's time to do the painting. I show you my struggles with the paint job and how I lay on some paint to try to resemble a fish. We do an epoxy

In this video I combine two of the things that I love, woodturning and fishing! I get to show you the process that I use to make an Ice fishing lure on my wood lathe. This project involves a lot of different processes like off center turning, carving with a rasp, and hand painting. The process was so involved I had to split it up into 2 parts. You will see me take an ordinary piece of maple and make an ice fishing lure from scratch. First I mark out centers to turn it on a different axis. Next it gets put on the lathe and roughed to a round cylinder. The wood is then taken through the v

Woodturning a Green Oak Fishing Hand Reel
By: Fatso's Workshop
November 28, 2016 · 2,128 views

Recently I came across some English Oak that had been cut up by a local arborist. I brought home a car load of rounds, mostly to start collecting firewood for next winter, but also to see what I could make of some of it. I've been too impatient and I couldn't wait for it to dry so I've turned up this small hand reel for fishing along with another one for my son so we can take them along over summer to Tasmania and wet a line as we travel around. they have been turned green so it has been interesting to see how much deformation we're getting as they dry, it's not been too bad so far and I

Turning a wooden hand line

I'd been asked to turn up some old school hand line fishing reels for a mate in Queensland for fishing the reef. These are being turned out of black walnut, a little bit classy for reef fishing but, hey, nothing like nice fishing kit. As I don't have a planer yet so I first need to sharpen up my old Falcon Pope planes to flatten the boards so I can laminate them up to get the required depth. The planes date from the late 1940s to mid 1950s, they do bring me a bit of joy to use. Wood Turning A Hobos Fishing Reel

November 09, 2015 · 6,693 views

I turned this Hobo Fishing Reel for my son i have not done one before he gave me some pictures of one and it was just guess work on the sizes of every thing. It ended up about 6' and the hole was about 1'1/4' i don't know what wood it was. It is a fishing reel for bush craft people or just to carry about with you. You need to kit it out first with line and floats and hooks and things that fit inside it. You rap the line round the outside at the top part and store the rest inside. It is small so it is easy to carry in a rucksack or something like that. For those people who did not know what it was for. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxRWDm68PUl8XaUCFgp5kcw/videos Looking at this video in the link i have made mine upside down i might make an other one i think and do it the right way lol https://www.youtube.com/watch?v sI1nC6yAmZ8
