DIY Flange Nut Alternative With Set Screw
By: As Wood Turns
August 31, 2018 · 1,908 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com I asked other woodturns in my club how to solve a particular problem. Several had machining background. Their recommendation was to obtain a flange nut then drill and tap for a set screw in the side. Essentially, a flange nut incorporates a washer with a nut as one unit. The set screw locks it in place on the bolt. A brass or nylon set screw does the job without damaging the threads on the bolt. The only problem was that 1'-8 tpi flange nuts are rare and expensive. I decided to make my own from HDPE, High Density PolyEthylene using a 1' spindle tap. But instead of

DIY Threading Jig For Common Wood
By: As Wood Turns
July 20, 2018 · 12,044 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com I've been on a quest to thread wood for many, many years. I even purchased a Beall tap and die set for simple nut and bolt projects. Very NOT satisfied. I've even tried to design and built my own threading jig. My problem was how to connect commercial all thread to a chuck. By the time I hired a machinist to make one, I could buy an expensive threading jig directly. I gave up and purchased hand chase tools. However, they're best used on expensive exotic wood that don't quite fit my budget. Until Dennis Paullus presented at the Utah Woodturning Symposium. His dia

EZ QT Threading Attachment for woodturning
By: Mike Peace Woodturning
February 24, 2016 · 4,573 views

I demonstrate EZ Quick Twist Threading attachment for a threading jig that cuts quick twist wood threads on a lathe. To be precise, threads with a double start and interrupted threads. What? Double start thread means that two threads start 180 degrees apart and run the length of the thread entwined with each other. The interrupted threads means the threads come together and lock with less than a quarter turn twist, similar to your typical peanut butter jar. You have got to see this! Even though I dried it as slowly as I thought I was supposed to... and yet I wonder if there were steps that I could have taken differently... I will only know for sure after the next time ... and only if I remembered what happened this time... next time! The cracking didn't hurt the piece at all as I think it looks like a bolt of black lightning running down the side... The spool I had thought thin enough that it wouldn't

Dust Right® Dust Separator

On Sale for only $59.99

Save $40.00

List Price: $99.99

Turn any shop vacuum with a 2-1/4'' ID outlet into a 2-stage dust and chip separator. When used with most power tools and shop vacuums, the Dust Right® Separator captures sawdust, wood chips, and other debris before it enters your vacuum, preventing the loss of suction power caused by a clogged vacuum filter. The five-caster base makes it exceptionally stable and easy to maneuver around the shop. Plus, hoses connect inside the in/out ports, preventing unintentional disconnections. The Dust Right® Separator creates a cyclonic air flow that causes most wood dust particles and other materials that are heavier than air to separate, preventing them from being passed to the vacuum. The vortex effect that is created prevents the loss of suction caused by prematurely clogged filters

Micro Dust Air Filtration System

On Sale for only $599.99

Save $100.00

List Price: $699.99

The PM1250 Air Filtration System employs an electrostatic filter that attracts and removes particles as small as 0.1 micron in size. It cycles the air in a 680 square foot space—the equivalent of an oversized 2-car garage—up to five times in a single hour. When set at the lowest setting, the system is about as quiet as a library, and when on high, it's quieter than normal conversation. Unlike most other air filtration systems, the PM1250 is portable and freestanding, meaning you can carry it to wherever filtration is most needed, then simply set it on the floor or the bench. The angle is adjustable using the knobs on the side of the unit. If you like, it can also be mounted to the wall or ceiling.
