Due to the imminent deadline, I switched to a walnut tea light with flashing LED. As I first mounted the wood to my lathe, I put things together about how I was mounting compared to another demonstration I saw recently. So I decided to give a great tip on why I mount many wood blocks to the lathe as I do. Tuesday Tip #21 Use pilot holes to put glue block on faceplate. ·

Using a glue block correctly is a much stronger and safer method to attaching bowl blanks to the lathe. Make sure the concave surface is done on the lathe between centers and drill counter sink holes in the dry wood glue block.

Tuesday Tip 16, Wobble bottom cut ·

TT16 I show a way to finish the wall of a vessel after it has dried out of round. This is usually used for finishing the last bit of the side wall near the bottom but this technique could be used on bowls or other out od round turning.

Sanding your projects on the lathe is the quickest way to finish your project. One way to sand quickly is with a power sander. You can use a simple sanding pad chucked into a drill. You can also use a random orbit sander that is purpose-built for lathe work — they typically include smaller, softer pads than sanders built for flat work, and some (like the air-driven sander I use from Woodturners Wonders) also include extensions to help reach inside bowls and other vessels.
