By: Blind Woodturner
February 23, 2018 · 555 views

In this video I show how I use petroleum jelly to assist in removing tear out at the final stages of turning a project. *** Join me, Chris Fisher, the Blind Wood Turner, in my workshop. I started out in life as a regular guy, working in auto body repair at BMW, until one day, completely out of the blue, a rare virus (Toxoplasmosis) reared its ugly head and caused me to lose my sight in a matter of weeks. Despite the challenges of coming to terms with losing my sight, I refused to give up and, after four years I decided to take up woodturning so that I could make myself a vampire stake – I’

Near Miss - Finish turning of a rough turned coffee tree bowl
By: H F Bowern Designs - Harold Bowern
November 19, 2015 · 893 views

Welcome back ! Today Ia going to finish up the coffee tree rough turned bowl blank I did back in August. It has about 18 - 13 % moisture content. I had stored the rough turned blank in shavings and a paper bag. A bit of an interesting turn as the lip has quite a good section of live edge bark left on it and the blank is out of round in shape. So turning at a moderate speed was necessary. I used a combination of bowl gouges and carbide tools to turn the blank into final shape. I call this bowl 'Near Miss', as when I did the photos, that I show at the end of the video, I seen that I had alm

In this video I finish turn a couple of cedar bowls that I roughed out 10 months ago. They have been ready for some time but I'm just now getting to them. One gave me some problems that required a design modification during the process. In the end I'm very pleased with the way they both came out. One has been returned to my co-worker, Ellen, so she can return it to her mother who gave me the log in the first place. I hope you enjoy the video. Comments are always welcome.

April 02, 2014 · 20,873 views

MY BLOG.http://robbiethewoodturner.net/.Hi all here is the second video of wet turning a natural edge bowl from ash. I have put the bowl in a bucket of washing liquid for 5 days to soak.. I then left it to dry a little for 1 day put it back on the lathe for finishing Hers my toughs on this process. use yellow washing liquid green discolours the wood its is a brilliant way of getting a finish on difficult woods. There was some movement in the bowl but not enough to cause cracking. The bowl has dried now and is in the house no cracking it was turned from green on 17 march 2 of April today and it is dry except the bark it is a little soft you can only use oil or wax for finishing as the washing liquid causes problems with the finish

I hope you enjoy the video. Comments are always welcome.

Woodturning Walnut Bowl - Turn Green, Dry Rough then Finish Woodturning
By: As Wood Turns
March 13, 2012 · 10,161 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com Some time ago, I obtained some walnut from a builder who had cleared some land for homes. I promptly sawed the wood into manageable chunks and sawed each piece into halves through the pith. I coated each cut surface with a wax emulsion. I turned much of the wood soon thereafter, recoated each piece with the wax and placed each into a paper bag on a shelf in my shop. Then work demands peaked and I could not get back to the finish turning. Now several years later, I pulled it from its paper sack. It was a dry as it was going to ever be. And it was so beautiful even a
