Carbide tool set - the square tool
By: smallathe
March 16, 2019 · 23 views

Cutting the square tool. If you want to make just one tool for your wood lathe that does not need sharpening and works nicely - that's the one. It is wonderful. It does tend to grab a bit but that is carbide - it will last forever without sharpening! Making it is definitely simple and easy - just like the round one. Thanks for watching. Please like and subscribe Cheers, Saar

Carbide tool set - the round tool
By: smallathe
March 16, 2019 · 14 views

The round tool is the simplest tool there is to make - just cut steps into the stainless bar, drill and tap (as you can see) and you are done! This is a very nice tool for the shop and I highly recommend you make one yourself. Bought online these tools are well worth it - but very expensive... Hope you enjoyed Please like and subscribe Cheers, Saar

Carbide tool set - the diamond tool
By: smallathe
March 16, 2019 · 27 views

The diamond tool is one of the hardest to make. It required a set of hss endmills. That worked wonderfully though it reqired 0.2mm baby steps to mill the slots. Bottom line this is not the most vital tool but it is nice to have I did not show every bit of the way - that would be too boring... Next up - parting tool, the last tool.

Carbide tool set - making the handle
By: smallathe
March 14, 2019 · 46 views

I am making a carbide tool set for wood turning. These tools are very expensive to buy ( 150USD/tool) but very cheap to make (2-3 ). Making these wood turning tools from carbide saves me grinding the tool and I have no worries about the ware and tare on the tool as carbide bits are extremely hard and durable. As for materials and cost: Handle - Brass I already had but it's a tiny piece - 1 should cover it. Wood - you can use any piece of old brancd - I bought mine for 10cents or so Stainless - found it roaming free in a deserted food company site but let's say 10 for a 1foot 30cm piece th

Carbide tool set
By: smallathe
March 09, 2019 · 34 views

I'm playing a lot recently with resin - and I also enjoy wood turning - so It's about time to buy a carbide tool set for wood turning, right? Well... these are expensive... too, so, I have decided to make a set! And this is what I got after seven weeks of pure fun! Definitely well worth it - and while I'm sure I'll find bugs and need to address these while 'running' it for the first time - I'm very happy I've made this set. Ah... the cost you ask? Well, a tool ready to use costs around 100 plus 50 shipping. My cost? around 2 for the carbide and the work invested (the stainless I found lying around and the rest was peanuts... :) Hope you like it. Enjoy Saar

Woodturning a family portrait using carbide lathe tools
By: SJWoodworks
November 17, 2014 · 3,873 views

I used a few branches off a dead tree in my back yard to make some peg people, representing my family. The wood is soft, crumbly, and terrible for turning, in spite of having some interesting colors and a bit of spalting here and there. But seriously, torn out grain everywhere, and no way to really get a good surface. Now I just need to figure out how to make the dog. Simple danish oil to finish it up here. Remember, wood working is dangerous, and this video is for entertainment only, not a demonstration of proper or safe technique. You are responsible for your own safety in your shop.

Since I'm from the state of Washington, where we grow a lot of apples, I decided to turn an apple on the lathe. It's a Red Delicious apple (the iconic Washington apple) made from bloodwood, using only carbide lathe tools to make it.
