#35 Axminster Tools Multi-Head Live Centre
By: Andrew Whale
October 14, 2017 · 1,704 views

This is my review of the Axminster Tools Multi-head Live Centre. As the centre has a 3/4' x 16tpi threaded end, I also make my own bespoke head to attach to the centre. The live centre offers some great features but I think it could be improved further by providing a facility to lock the revolving head. This would enable the centre to be used as a live centre and help with the creation of bespoke heads. I guess an alternative would be for me to purchase a morse taper with a 3/4' x 16tpi threaded end to use as drive centre - if such an accessory exists. I hope you find this video interesting

Drechseltipp: Kegelmutter, Morsekonus & Bohrfutter besser entfernen.
By: GentleTurn
May 15, 2016 · 1,893 views

making a HOMEMADE live center for my homemade lathe. yes a home made lathe can in fact have a live center, that performs as well as a store bought. the spark of an idea came by bicycling to the farmers market one morning. looking at the front wheel i realized that it could be possible to use a bicycle hub as a bearing containing a center, which obviously is the axle of the wheels. now of course...it is obviously possible. planning on building a lathe? I have built a few but they were quite technical. i thought it would be interesting to build a lathe ONLY from the parts that are already i

How to make a spur drive, of the 2 prong variety. this is a video snippet form my homemade lathe series. i know many of you out there have a lathe (or are building a lathe) and need a spur center / drive center /spur drive (which ever you prefer) but don't necessarily want to go out and buy one. well this is my answer to that particular problem. don't let the fact that this is a homemade drive center fool you, it is more than capable of doing the job. i used it recently on a commission job and it worked flawlessly. if you are interested din seeing it in action you can find that particular video here https://youtu.be/BYH8YJk0CV4 if you are interested in the lathe shown in the video you can find that video here https://youtu.be/29QVts4zz64

These centres are safe, secure and offer greater versatility and accuracy than the usual two or four prong drive centres. The centre features a spring loaded, stainless steel centre point and a sharp toothed outer ring which provides the drive. The Axminster Evolution Series Pro Drive is unique in that you can vary the spring tension. There are numerous advantages when using this drive. Repositioning your work is accurate; the work always goes back in the same place. They are safe; reduce the pressure from the tailstock and in the event of a dig-in the work will simply stop revolving. Re

Since the triple buff system has some utility as is, I decided to keep it as is but purchase three new buff wheels to use on my lathe. Each mount consists of: 1. 3/8 inch by 2 inch bolt 2. Lock washer 3. 2' diameter washer with 3/8 inch hole 4. 3/4 inch wood spacer with 3/8 inch hole and about 1/4 inch thick. This helps the buffing wheel center on the bolt. I turned mine from scrap wood. 5. Another 2' diameter wash

For a written and more detailed tutorial, plans, and a cut list, please visit my instructables: http://www.instructables.com/id/Lathe-Chisel-Rack/ This week I made two racks to hold all of my lathe chisels. I've been wanting a better system for my chisels for a long time now and I kind of just started making up my own design as I made these. These were really easy to make and although I used my bandsaw, drill press, and table saw, you could make this project with only a circular saw and a drill.......but making it with a bandsaw, drill press, and table saw is so much easier! Make a tool rest - part 6 - Brazing
By: RickTurns
March 19, 2015 · 7,126 views

In this sixth and final video in my series of videos about making a tool rest (without welding!), I braze the arm to the post, and then the wear strip to the arm. After cleaning up the new tool rest, I cut and adjust the height on the lathe. The manufacturer's video on using the oxy-mapp torch is here: https://youtu.be/a38PdQkcInA Jan 23 2016 - this just in! Lyle Jamieson passed on a suggestion to put a wedge of wood in the right angle of the angle iron, so that if the tool slips off the end (or even the lip) of the rest, you'll be less likely of catching a finger or two. Sounds like a good idea to me.

As promised in the video, here are the dimensions and the parts list for the project. One 1/4' thick 11' x 7 1/2' board One 10 1/2' 18tpi hacksaw blade Two #5 machine screws Two lock washers Two #1/4 washers (the washer is a little over 1/2' in diameter and 1/16' thick)

I made a mesquite nature bowl. As it dryed it started to show small cracks, so I gave it a coat of tung oil. The cracks stopped but the finish was dull and foggy. I decided to build my own wheel buffer that I could power on my lathe using my Nova chuck.

Clean Up Time For Your Lathe's Morse Taper
By: As Wood Turns
June 21, 2013 · 5,325 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com On my lathe, I don't think about cleaning the inside of the spindle or tail stock, but I should. Gunk can build up in the morse taper of these areas and throw off how well your drive and tail centers seat, center, and hold your work. The gunk can also cause damage to these tools. But cleaning the morse taper is difficult. It's a small area - I cannot use a steel brush as it will eventually damage the morse taper. However, I saw a tip in American Woodturner that helps a lot -- use a #20 shotgun cleaning brush. The brush ( 2- 3) itself does not have a handle but I'm a woodturner, I can make one out of a pen blank. That is what I did. Enter your email at http://www.AsWoodTurns.com & I'll let you know when the next woodturning project video is ready.

Easy Lathe Tailstock Lift Prevents Backstrain
By: As Wood Turns
February 23, 2013 · 9,382 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com The tailstock on my full-sized Powermatic 3520A is heavy. I have to remove it from the lathe to hollow a bowl or a hollow form. It's so heavy that I worry about dropping in on my toes or straining my back. If I leave it on the lathe, I risk banging an elbow. Ouch!. It was time to fix this 'Health & Safety' issue. I searched for solutions including commercial solutions. They're nice but expensive. A fellow woodturning club member used an electric lathe. Another viewer made a hinge to swing his tail stock off to the side. I needed it clear out of harm's way. I purchase

For the stem of the sanding pad, he uses extra long screw driver bits that he purchased at Harbor Freight. They can be glued into a 7mm hole drilled in the wooden block at the base of each sanding pad. Enjoy!!
