Live Center Options For Woodturning
By: As Wood Turns
November 30, 2018 · 4,116 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com I appreciate my OneWay live center. It is well made and a good design. The design enable me to tap other items to enhance its capabilities. In this video, I make a finial steady that mounts to the live center and keeps thin finials from breaking while I'm turning them. I also show how to drill out a #6 rubber stopper. I use a rubber stopper whenever I need pressure from the live center but do not want the wood to be marred. I use a standard 3/4' 10 tpi tap from a industrial supply company. The #6 rubber stopper came from Amazon. Similar live centers are offered by: (may have different threads) -OneWay -Penn State -Robust -Easy Wood Tools Enjoy! Beading tool at work
By: Roper Woodturning
October 31, 2018 · 25 views

During my last trip/demo in Portland Or. I saw my friend Mike Meredith of Doctors Woodshop and he showed up with some treats. The first of which was this amazing piece of Pacific Yew. What a wonderful wood to work with. Because of how tight the grain is on this piece it was the perfect project to play around with my RobertSorby 3/16” beading tool. Sanded and finished with Doctors Woodshop Walnut oil. Thanks a bunch Mike. #roperwoodturning #woodturning #lathe #doctorswoodshop #maker #robertsorby #powermatic #colorado #woodworking

9019 1/2' Flexible Point Center Drive
By: NOVA Woodworking
October 04, 2018 · 299 views

The NOVA 9019 1/2″ Flexible Point Drive Center is a clever design popular among spindle turners. The “Flexible Point” spring-loaded center point allows you to set your workpiece in place (or remove it) with the lathe turning. Your workpiece spins when you increase tailstock pressure and the drive center teeth bite into the wood. With light pressure, it will drive your work, but allow it to stop if you have a catch, (minimizing damage to your workpiece). With increased pressure, it will power through even the heaviest cuts. Multiple teeth spread the pressure over a larger area making the Flexible Point drive center less likely to split your workpiece than a standard spur. https://www.teknatool.com/product/nova-12-flexible-point-drive-center/ Connect with us! #35 Axminster Tools Multi-Head Live Centre
By: Andrew Whale
October 14, 2017 · 4,385 views

This is my review of the Axminster Tools Multi-head Live Centre. As the centre has a 3/4' x 16tpi threaded end, I also make my own bespoke head to attach to the centre. The live centre offers some great features but I think it could be improved further by providing a facility to lock the revolving head. This would enable the centre to be used as a live centre and help with the creation of bespoke heads. I guess an alternative would be for me to purchase a morse taper with a 3/4' x 16tpi threaded end to use as drive centre - if such an accessory exists. I hope you find this video interesting

#24 My new logo and branding iron
By: Andrew Whale
June 05, 2017 · 8,168 views

Hi Although I've only been woodturning for less than a year I thought it would be a good idea to create my own brand logo. I also decided to purchase a branding iron to apply the logo to my work. I recently contacted a company called Bolsons Ltd which produces all sorts of things like branding irons, rubber stamps, seals etc. They were really helpful and gave me some very good advice. I then provided them with artwork (in the form of a .jpg) and they duplicated this onto an iron. Their website is www.bolsons.co.uk if you are interested. Introducing the Elio-DR
By: Tod Raines
May 21, 2017 · 1,300 views

Produced by Tod Raines of Woodturning Tool Store May 21, 2017 Woodturning Tool Store is introducing the improved Elio-DR (Drawbar Ready). The use of the drawbar with the Elio-DR Safe Drive allows for safer operation as a faceplate without tailstock support. All three standard Elio Safe Drives have been upgraded for the use of a drawbar. Standard 1/4”-20 threads have been added with a threaded insert machined out of solid steel for strength and durability. The drawbar kit is 1/4”-20 threaded rod covered with LLDPE tubing complete with a cone center and two wing knobs. The standard length is 18' and should be cut to length to fit the lathe. Drechseltipp: Kegelmutter, Morsekonus & Bohrfutter besser entfernen.
By: GentleTurn
May 15, 2016 · 2,793 views

Woodturning Tool Review Buffing System Update

October 09, 2015 · 5,201 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com After I reviewed my Beall buffing system, I received several great suggestions mainly to take it apart and mounts the buffing wheels directly to my lathe. Since the triple buff system has some utility as is, I decided to keep it as is but purchase three new buff wheels to use on my lathe. Each mount consists of: 1. 3/8 inch by 2 inch bolt 2. Lock washer 3. 2' diameter washer with 3/8 inch hole 4. 3/4 inch wood spacer with 3/8 inch hole and about 1/4 inch thick. This helps the buffing wheel center on the bolt. I turned mine from scrap wood. 5. Another 2' diameter wash

Make a tool rest - part 6 - Brazing
By: RickTurns
March 19, 2015 · 8,234 views

In this sixth and final video in my series of videos about making a tool rest (without welding!), I braze the arm to the post, and then the wear strip to the arm. After cleaning up the new tool rest, I cut and adjust the height on the lathe. The manufacturer's video on using the oxy-mapp torch is here: https://youtu.be/a38PdQkcInA Jan 23 2016 - this just in! Lyle Jamieson passed on a suggestion to put a wedge of wood in the right angle of the angle iron, so that if the tool slips off the end (or even the lip) of the rest, you'll be less likely of catching a finger or two. Sounds like a good idea to me.

I am simply trying to show that you can take big cuts quickly with the Robust ring drive. .. Clean Up Time For Your Lathe's Morse Taper
By: As Wood Turns
June 21, 2013 · 5,720 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com On my lathe, I don't think about cleaning the inside of the spindle or tail stock, but I should. Gunk can build up in the morse taper of these areas and throw off how well your drive and tail centers seat, center, and hold your work. The gunk can also cause damage to these tools. But cleaning the morse taper is difficult. It's a small area - I cannot use a steel brush as it will eventually damage the morse taper. However, I saw a tip in American Woodturner that helps a lot -- use a #20 shotgun cleaning brush. The brush ( 2- 3) itself does not have a handle but I'm a woodturner, I can make one out of a pen blank. That is what I did. Enter your email at http://www.AsWoodTurns.com & I'll let you know when the next woodturning project video is ready.

I searched for solutions including commercial solutions. They're nice but expensive. A fellow woodturning club member used an electric lathe. Another viewer made a hinge to swing his tail stock off to the side. I needed it clear out of harm's way. I purchase

Trying out Google SketchUp for Woodturning Ideas

I wish I was good at making tutorials. I would explain how all this happens. But, really, if you try SketchUp, it's very easy to learn...and you can do these things very quickly. Follow block

This video describes how I made a follow block to mount on the tail center of my lathe. I apologize for the sound quality but I have not been able to figure out how to get rid of the 'Max Headroom' stutter that crops up occasionally. My video editing software 'upgrade' seems to be causing more problems than it cured.
