I've kept away from the blue / turquoise resin in this one and gone with a copper filler, so should please some people! Large project out next Friday so look out for that one! 'Kuksa' cup, of birch. It's certainly not easy to turn side grain with a hook, but terribly fun :) The hook is sharpened with a draw trough carbide sharpener. It works well with the right use.

Jarrod Dahl turns a wooden travel cup on a Japanese-style electric lathe
By: Jarrod Dahl
November 07, 2019 · 82 views

After turning professionally on a foot powered pole lathe since about 2009, I have branched out. In 2018 and 2019 I traveled to Japan where I learned Japanese style turning from 2 master turners. This lathe uses only one center and hooks. In Japan the hooks are called kanna, the scraper is called syaka, and hand held scrapers are called usuba. Here I am turning a wooden travel cup which fits a silicone travel lid for taking your coffee around town. Shot Glasses Turned from Spalted Maple!
By: Rockin’ R’s Woodshop
October 18, 2019 · 91 views

I was just getting some practice in with a skew chisel, attempting to turn some shot glass shapes, when I noticed the spalting on this piece of maple. So I quickly grabbed my camera and started filming. Some issues, especially with the camera placement and vibration, but all in all I think that they turned out well. It is not one of the best my projects, even isn't medium but I don't like wasting a wood. I have cut few square holes using chisel, poured pink resin with mica powder and turned a cup. I gived it to my doughter and she was very happy - this is the best reward for me

Woodturning - Bourbon Barrel Glass

Hello, if anyone is watching this, thank you very much and please like and comment, it would help a lot! This is the sixth video I have made, it describes how to turn a bourbon/whiskey/scotch glass out of a piece of oak. The glass is then finished with a technique known as Shou Sugi Ban. Haven't used it a lot but you can definitely still smell the flavor of past drinks on the glass. I hope this is helpful, please leave a comment and if you do this yourself send me your results! Woodturning - Wooden Beer Stein

Checkout my new video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v fM2sH8zZ_eQ&lc UgwBLKyTyFP0vLujV3x4AaABAg We took the mobile shop to Leavenworth Wa, and filmed this weeks project. I thought a beer stein was only fitting for this trip. Leavenworth is a Bavarian-styled village in the Cascade Mountains, in central Washington State. I found a great spot on the Wenatchee River to film making the cup part of the stein. Then we headed south to the Columbia river gorge to make the handle. My buddy Jamie from England gave me this scroll saw, so I thought this replica of Stonehenge (World War 1 Memorial) would be

How to make a simple Kuksa style cup on the lathe
By: Jim Overton - Jimson's Stuff
June 25, 2018 · 7,094 views

In this video I show how I turned a very simplified Kuksa style cup on the lathe. Proper Kuksa are hand carved from a single piece of wood and oil finished. I part turn the piece and then stabilise the sapele before final finishing. This will hopefully produce a relatively stable and semi waterproof cup. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT I AM NOT USING ANY CERTIFIED FOODSAFE PRODUCTS IN THIS PROJECT. I used Stick Fast stabilising resin, this is available from Turner's Retreat https://www.turners-retreat.co.uk/stabilizing-resin-catalyst/p770 I use easy Wood Tools carbide tools and their Easy Chuck htt

Jerry's Embellished Bottoms on Walnut and Mesquite Cups
By: Nubsnstubs
April 15, 2017 · 127 views

This video consist of two different cups getting the tenons removed. One is Walnut, and the other is local Mesquite to my area. The bottom of the Walnut was thick enough to turn a finial into . The Mesquite bottom is too shallow to have a finial, so finished it with beads instead. In my opinion, any form that is made should have the care taken to show off the bottom as much as the rest of the form. The Tail Stock Steady, US Patent #9.393,655 was invented for safety reasons. I was losing about 3 out of 10 pieces due to the nub failing prematurely. After using it for awhile, I decided to start decorating all my bottoms if the bottom permits decoration. Deer Antler Beer Stein # 62
By: The Wood Whirler
January 10, 2017 · 8,535 views

Deer Antler/Walnut Beer Stein # 62 Due to the number of steps and complexity of this project, I am only showing the most involved procedures in the video. But I will outline all the steps below. 1. Made the blank to be turned. This step is well documented in the video. 2. Mounted the blank on the lathe. Since what is normally the top of this blank will actually become the bottom, I drilled a forester bit hole in the new top to mount in an expansion mode using pen jaws. 3. I clean up the outside to round and drilled a forester bit hole in the bottom. 4. I hollowed the bottom approximate half wa

VIdeo #9 Coffee and SpectraPly Part 1
By: AnkleBiter Woodworks
November 24, 2016 · 7,936 views

This video is part 1 of two for making a segmented mug that is more complex than the previous set of four. Ring thickness was reduced while the number of segments was increased to 16. The crown of this project is the feature ring made of SpectraPly, each layer of ply veneer layer dyed a different color. With a few mishaps along the way, this was, indeed, a fun project. Video #7 Four Segmented Insulated Coffee Travel Mugs Part 3 of 3
By: AnkleBiter Woodworks
July 09, 2016 · 1,974 views

After almost two months, part 3 of a 3 part series on making segmented insulated travel mugs. In this part, I cover actual woodturning of the halves of the mugs as well as final assembly and finishing. Sorry for this one being a bit longer than the other two, but there is a lot of work going on. Hope the music selection helps. I received some advice on improving my videos and am seeing how they go: shortening the video time and speaking less, so, let me know if I went too far in that direction. After almost two months, part 2 of a 3 part series on making segmented insulated travel mugs. In this part, I cover the sanding of the assembled rings as well as assembling of the rings. At first, I struggled with aligning multiple rings at once, but, in the end, found that using bathroom tissue tubes to align the rings in sets of 3 works best and the tubes turned away easily enough. The Blind Wood Turner - Episode 39 - A Mead Cup On A Glue Chuck

In this episode, I turn a mead cup on a glue chuck - something I've never done before. *** Join me, Chris Fisher, the Blind Wood Turner, in my workshop. I started out in life as a regular guy, working in auto body repair at BMW, until one day, completely out of the blue, a rare virus (Toxoplasmosis) reared its ugly head and caused me to lose my sight in a matter of weeks. Despite the challenges of coming to terms with losing my sight, I refused to give up and, after four years I decided to take up woodturning so that I could make myself a vampire stake – I’m a huge horror film fan!
