Woodturning Turners Filler Woodturners Potato Starch Filler Woodturning Potatoes
By: William Hunt
September 03, 2019 · 3,506 views

In a few instances, I have had the need for a filler, particularly in a situation where I wanted to turn some punky wood that had some provenance. Recently this occurred with a piece of London Plane that had a large patch of soft, punky wood, which wanted to turn a lidded box from but the very soft patches would not provide me with a foundation for abrasive work. I decided to search for an improvised filler that would overcome this problem but would also take sanding sealer, stain, and a finish. Eventually, I found that potato starch might fit this requirement and this video is about the trial. How To Fix A Crooked Hole On A Wood Lathe Part 1
By: Michael Idarecis
February 24, 2019 · 22 views

Upon watching a YouTube video on how to drill one side of a piece of wood with a foster drill bit ended up making the hole crooked. Here we fix that crooked hole by slightly enlarging and making it true with the rest of the handle. In the video you will see a steady rest used in conjunction with a spur drive being held in place with the tool rest and a boring head from metal machining to straighten out the hole in wood. This is just a different method of getting a true hole that takes a little longer however with greater results. A DIY Approach To Waterproof Wood
By: As Wood Turns
February 22, 2019 · 3,350 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com At last fall's Segmented Woodturning Symposium, I had a discussion with Joe Schlawin. He suggested that acrylic plastic could be used to waterproof certain woodturnings. I needed to know how a solid sheet of acrylic plastic could waterproof the inside of a vase. It turns out that acetone can dissolve acrylic. It takes some time but acetone can dissolve the plastic. For this project, I broke up some acrylic into small pieces with pliers. I had to wear my full face shield. The pieces tended to shatter a fly away including at my face. I put about 3/4 inch of small p

Drill and assemble your pens perfectly with flush fittings and a smoothly-operating mechanism! This dual-purpose jig takes care of both prep work and assembly. It holds your blank firmly in position for drilling, creating a precise, perfectly centered hole the entire length of the pen. Later, it smoothly presses your parts together without any bowing or misalignment. Notched jaws automatically center the blank for drilling, while two countersunk holes center the parts during assembly. Large clamping wheel provides slow, controlled pressure so you'll never crack a casing again.
