How To Fix A Crooked Hole On A Wood Lathe Part 1
By: Michael Idarecis
February 24, 2019 · 14 views

Upon watching a YouTube video on how to drill one side of a piece of wood with a foster drill bit ended up making the hole crooked. Here we fix that crooked hole by slightly enlarging and making it true with the rest of the handle. In the video you will see a steady rest used in conjunction with a spur drive being held in place with the tool rest and a boring head from metal machining to straighten out the hole in wood. This is just a different method of getting a true hole that takes a little longer however with greater results. http://www.AsWoodTurns.com At last fall's Segmented Woodturning Symposium, I had a discussion with Joe Schlawin. He suggested that acrylic plastic could be used to waterproof certain woodturnings. I needed to know how a solid sheet of acrylic plastic could waterproof the inside of a vase. It turns out that acetone can dissolve acrylic. It takes some time but acetone can dissolve the plastic. For this project, I broke up some acrylic into small pieces with pliers. I had to wear my full face shield. The pieces tended to shatter a fly away including at my face. I put about 3/4 inch of small p
