Egg Cup - Episode 122
By: Paul Lockwood
March 13, 2018 · 1,122 views

Second of a short series this month on a Wednesday covering simple Easter Projects. Using a piece of Ash (I think) that I got from being sold as firewood, the whole process was made in the chuck. Most of the shape was done with a spindle gouge. Sanded to 400 grit, sanding sealer and finished with Woodwax22. Utah Woodturning Symposium - My 2016 Egg Cup Race Entry
By: As Wood Turns
May 20, 2016 · 2,191 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com I enjoy attending woodturning symposium - the Utah Woodturning Symposium is one such treat. In addition to all the demostrations and exhibits, an annual feature is the egg cup race. I've participated for at least three years. It is a lot of fun. Each participant is given a block of green wood with a tenon already turned and mounted in a lathe. Two woodturners turn at the same time competing either for the fastest egg cup or the best egg cup in less then two minutes. There was a healty mix of presenters, professionals, experienced and not-yet-experienced turners. I

Woodturning an Eccentric Alien Egg Cup Type Thingy
By: Jerry Paul
November 29, 2015 · 1,313 views

I think it was Mark Twain who said something to the effect of - 'You should hire a lazy man because he'll always find an easier way to get the job done.' Personally, I have yet to see someone turning an eccentric piece this way. It worked pretty good for me, although some may see this as being un-safe. DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU FEEL IT MAY BE UN-SAFE!!!

The Egg Stand. Special Focus on Finishing.
By: The Walnut Log Studio
March 21, 2015 · 380 views

I have been asked several times about my friction polish finishing techniques. This video highlights the steps I take and how I use the products. I'm making an egg stand out of Black White Ebony, for an egg I turned already. My friction polish process: Sand to 600 buff with a green then grey Scotch Brite pad apply 2 coats Mylands Cellulose sanding sealer, thinned approx. 70/30. Buff the seal coat back with a tripoli compound. I use Dr. Kirk's Scratch FrEEE Hand rub one coat Mylands Friction Polish and let dry. Turn lathe on and apply one very light coat (seriously, a drop or two will do) at speed and buff till glossy. Let dry. Apply as many coats as you need, allowing dry time in between. That's it. Pretty simple and you get a decent shine. Egg Cup - Q&A - Design Ideas
By: PeteTGIF
October 06, 2014 · 375 views

Thank you RobbieTheWoodturner for your question. Being one who isn't an expert on sharpening his tools, I show, not demonstrate, my way of sharpening. I also try to explain, why my egg cup came out the way it looks. Although being far from a person called TreeHugger, especially the history of the Lüneburger Heath, the area where I live makes me think about, how humans do create a whole new landscape by misusing the trees as a cheap way to get rich, or as of today, save some money. Please leave your comments and ideas about how we might preserve our resources for our children.

Finally an Egg Cup

While I have a 'big' project on my bench - the birthday present for my mother - I forgot about the time. As it is 'Tag der Deutschen Einheit' (German Unity Day) tomorrow, I thought a nice breakfast would be fun. Although I turn for more than a year now, and from the day I bought my lathe I wanted to turn an Egg Cup, I've never done so. So here it is: my first ever turned Egg Cup. -------------------------------------------------------- Due to the little amount of time, I don't talk during the turning part of this video. I'll leave my design ideas to the Q&A on Monday. A Triple Multi-Axis Egg Cup Challenge Answered
By: As Wood Turns
June 12, 2014 · 3,620 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com After last week's egg cup, Larry joked 'why not an eccentric egg cup'. I took that as a challenge. This triple egg cup is turned from red cedar and finished with beeswax and mineral oil. The turning axis was shifted 1.25' in three directions 120 degrees apart to turn the hollows for the eggs. It could also serve as a jewelry stand, a candy dish, or a display stand. Special safety precautions were considered to ensure that I would not get hurt while turning it. This project is for experienced turners only. Enter your email at http://www.AsWoodTurns.com & I'll let you know when the next easy woodturning project video is ready. Utah Woodturning Symposium Egg Cup - Not On The Clock
By: As Wood Turns
June 06, 2014 · 5,080 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com While at the Utah Woodturning Symposium, I participated in the Egg Cup Turning contest. In the contest, either two individuals or two teams of two woodturners competed against each other to turn an egg cup as quickly as possible. Many who had participated in previous years turned their egg cup in about 30 seconds. My time was about 2 1/2 minutes. Not bad but not the fastest. Mine was decent but not what I call a finished piece. Upon returning home, I decided I needed to turn another egg cup to satisfy myself that I could do better not in terms of time but in a finish

Wood Turning #76 Egg Cup

Wood Turning #76 Egg Cup I hadn't done a normal egg cup so I thought it was high time I did! This piece of Arbutus had a few cracks in it elsewhere... but I seemed to have dodged the bullet on this one! I am always amazed by the difference in colour between green and seasoned wood... green this would be almost white! This was designed with the farm fresh eggs in mind... it might be a little large for regular store bought eggs! I thought I would add the transcript of the video in case it made it easier for translation to have a text file as well... Hello and welcome to the Tiny Trailer Worksho

This is an exercise in camera learning skills! I am afraid that I zoomed in the camera to do one shot... and forgot to zoom back out again! And now as I upload this... it tells me up top there that this is going to take 1545 minutes... no make that 2147! And I am all the way up to 2%!! So who knows how long this will take... but when it finally gets there... I thank you for watching! It says that I uploaded it on the 10th, but it is 7:30am on the 11th and I am only just now able to check it to see!

In this video I'm making a spinning top and couple of egg holders. If you noticed, before I flipped the last piece for the base turning, I made a little V-Grove. This grove fits right inside the serrated jaws, and with this method the sharp teeth of the jaw don't damage wood.
