Baseball Bats - Memorial Day Project
By: Maple-Crossing Woodworks
May 29, 2017 · 234 views

On this Memorial Day, I would like to give special thanks to all those who served and gave the ultimate sacrifice so that those left behind can live the American dream. Some observe in silent vigil, some by working the land and some celebrate the life that all those fought for. This year, we will be doing all three, ending with a softball game with friends and family. I thought that this would be a great opportunity to show up with a homemade bat (or two). A message from Cedric http://www.youtube.com/watch?v pv50gqqo2_A A Bat Chain It could be a place to park the keys for the Bat Mobile or it could be another way of hitting the keys out of the park! Either way.. they are fun to make and will be enjoyed by any baseball fan! On half of the ones I make, I use a fine tip felt pen and write Shirleyville Slugger on the bat. They are not as famous as the Louisville Slugger.... but unless the town you live in isn’t already a “ville” you should be able to make it work for you too! Although Shirleyvilleville has a kind of ring to it! So you saw there tha

Challenge Tree Challenge 2016, A Kids Sized Baseball Bat, Willem's Woodnotes
By: Willem Kossen
March 28, 2016 · 395 views

Another day, another woodworking challenge. I love them. They give me a deadline to work towards making sure i finish a project. This time it's the Challenge Tree by Dominic's Woodworks. The idea is to take (part of) a tree, and make something. So a took part of a beech tree (a limb, a log) and made a baseball bat. That's actually a good thing since i needed a way to defend myself against woodworking threats. Talking to you, Sway! If you don't know what a baseball bat is, here you go: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baseball_bat This bat is small, it's a kids sized one. My son, the guest star

Floating Display for a Personalized Baseball Bat
By: PeteTGIF
June 26, 2015 · 727 views

A while back I turned a small, decorative Baseball Bat for a friend of mine to thank him for his effort, repairing my car. He liked to have the names of his two sons engraved, I hadn't enough faith in my abilities to do so for a long time. Last week I finally made it! In order to display this piece I thought I'd build some kind of display. Other than just screwing a board to the wall, my version seems to float, which gives this a nice appearance. I lost some footage, I think I need new equipment. This week I describe what I made and my thoughts about the design. Thanks to my supporters! ------

This is me turning a maple baseball bat on a lathe for my friend's birthday present. It started as a 3 inch diameter wood bat billet and I shaped it into a functional, regulation-size bat. I wood burned a design into the barrel at the end. Here is the link to an album containing pictures of the finished bat: http://kevinhou.wix.com/projects#!maple-baseball-bat/ce0i Here is the link to my website containing albums of all my wood and electronics projects: http://kevinhou.wix.com/projects Here is the link to my blog, Flickr, Github, etc. http://khou22.github.io

As a 'Follow-Up' to the massage-Pin, which turned out verry nice, I decided to start my first 'Customers-Project'. Well Customer is quite overdone, but he'll pay for the wood. After this I definitely know: my next project for the shop will be a permanant base for the lathe, so I can enter my shop and do small projects without paying a fortune for the wood. The major problem for me has been the dimensions of the bat. But as it's just for display, I thought, whatever feels right, is right. The bat ended up 30' long, and app. 2' in diameter for the top part. The diameter had been set by the blank I got from a local carpenter, who only got boards 55mm app. 2.1/8 inch. Lucky for me, that I didn't make too bad mistakes, so the final result left me 52mm which is a little more than 2 inch.
