Stick to It! ·
By: Mike Peace Woodturning
May 26, 2017 · 3,525 views

I demonstrate a really easy and practical woodturning project – a refrigerator magnet. Actually I demonstrate five different ones so you can see different shapes, embellishments and methods of chucking. These are great little projects for absolute beginners or others that only have a bit of time and some scrap of wood and want to turn something. And they make great inexpensive gifts. Mine use a ” or 5/16” (6 – 8 mm diameter) rare earth magnet and are so much stronger than the store bought or souvenir quality you buy in a store! You can download demonstration handouts, downloadable copies of articles I have published, and other useful woodturning information available on my website http://mikepeacewoodturning.blogspot.com/p/woodturning-resources.html

More Natural Edge From Spring Pruning - Rustic Napkin Rings ·
By: As Wood Turns
March 31, 2017 · 2,787 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com In this video I am again using a sucker I had pruned from a hazelnut tree. This time, I'm turning a set of natural edge rustic napkin rings with a stand for their display and storage. This is a set of eight rings about 1 1/2 inch diamter and about 1 inch long finished with walnut oil. The challenge in this project is cleaning up the centers. Since the entire outside is bark, only the inside had to be sanded. Still, it is a simple but repetive project. One for a woodturner or looking for the totally unique dining accessory. Good turning. Enter your email at http://www.AsWoodTurns.com & I'll let you know when the next easy woodturning project video is ready. 30 Min Kitchen Mallet ·
By: Atkinson Woodturning
December 31, 2016 · 303 views

I made a kitchen mallet out of a 3x3x9 block of black walnut. (I made 4 that day and each one took around 30 min start to finish. sorry no pictures) I started by mounting it on my lathe between centers and then I used a roughing gouge to make the cylinder after that I used my oval skew to form most of the handle and do smoothing cuts on the head of the mallet. I also used a carbide scraper to define the curves in the handle. I used a wire burner to do some detail lines on the handle and then finished with beeswax so I would have a food safe finish on the mallet. Kitchen mallets can be used to

This is a much more simple project than I thought it would be, once I got the walnut cut into 1/8' thick boards. Celtic Knot Dresses Up Pizza Cutter Handle ·
By: As Wood Turns
September 23, 2016 · 3,106 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com My wife asked me to turn a new handle for her pizza cutter. The original handle had almost disintegrated. A handle is a fairly simple spindle project. But I decided to dress it up a little bit. After all, according to my children, pizza is the foundation of all food groups. One can live and thrive on pizza. This handle is maple with walnut accents. it is about 6 inches long and about 1 inch in diameter. The maple is an example of urban forestry - it came from a tree downed in a storm three years earlier. At that time, it was rough turned and set aside. The Celtic

Spurtles are a fun turn and a very useful one too! In addition to stirring porridge I have found that they work exceptionally well for stirring natural peanut butter. The brand that comes to mind here is Adams... but I would imagine it is probably a North American variety! I am sure that it would work with any of them! I have decided that seeing as this is fairly short... and has a lot of text in it anyway.. I am only putting out the one video this time. For the viewers who like the uncluttered look of the non texted version... this video is an exception... and not the way things will remain!

A simple handle that changes the feel of a tool from alright to cool in one easy step! I was pretty sure that this had been a Cherry branch until I remembered that I hadn't pruned any large branches off the Cherry! I suppose I could have edited that part out... but that isn't the way I work! Same as when I filmed the green screen part... the audio really sucked!! So i rerecorded the audio... and then had to try and make it look like that was what I was saying at that time! Funny... you can have an exact copy of the words in one... but if you say them again your timing is all off...and you loo

The Chemo bottle holder that I did in my last video worked very well... with a couple of small defects that had to be worked around! The cap broke! That kind of sucked! It had gotten too thin and the notch that I cut in to accommodate the hose.... well ... the notch ran the same direction as the grain...well it dropped on the floor once and that was the end of it! I have tried curving the lines in that cut so that it may deflect any temptation for that piece to split. Having that knot go through just on the other side of that was pretty handy too! While this belt arrangement worked... and work

This is a first version of a holder that I will make much use of! Although there are going to be some changes made along the way...after one session with this one I discovered a few shortcomings which I have to figure out how to deal with. The basic design is workable and I think will in the long run be a very handy product. So I guess this is sort of a how you Might do... how to! As much fun as this was to make... the Sanding with an Irish Last Name was even more fun... the sad part is that I haven't been able to re-find the video that Brendan made where he asked turners to show more of thei

Sometimes... when your chickens are too thick... you just have to get tender with them! An ideal wood for this project would have been Maple... but the Pine feels kind of nice. I may have to look to what other utensils I might need! Might even feel the faint rumblings of a Pine Spurtle! I am sure that using a table saw set at an angle would have created a much more accurate set of teeth... But they kind of fit my style of cooking... just a little bit off! Hopefully my Confessions of a Cooking Wood Turner won't offend too many people... I just kind of thought that seeing as that was where the

The Spurtle was introduced in Scotland in the 1570 something because in those days they didn't have the rolled oats we have today ,the oats were much courser and had a tendency to lump together very quickly so they? had to stir the oats when cooking constantly hence the Spurtle came to be also around that time came the spatula being flat instead of round this was for turning the Oatcakes. Just as an interesting point here... the grain of the wood you will see in the end pictures... is smack dab in the middle! But that is the only place!! Wood Turnng # 60 The Masher ·

A plunger for mashing berries! I don't know it just doesn't sound as good! This is Arbutus which elsewhere is called Medrona and as cool as it looks I will be turning another one as this one has cracks happening on the lower section. It probably won't go anywhere but it would allow for juice to get in and cause health issues... It'll be a piece of cake now that I have done one! Because Arbutus is a protected tree here on Vancouver Island it is not common to find larger pieces.... I've mostly worked on branches up to about 6'dia. Strange... I guess it is because the wood is green that it is white! Green Arbutus turns like butter... this is considerably harder! But it does have a beautiful grain pattern in it. It also polishes very well... as it was to be used with food I didn't use anything other than sandpaper on this! I was pleased! Thanks for watching Larry .

If I might add here... In my last video I bragged about how good my trailer was when the power was out... well yes I can have lights... but not much more!! You will see that the lathe sucks most of it away! I can run the chop saw... but only just barely and the band saw won't even turn over!! So... don't believe every thing you hear!! Hello: This is an easy turn that gives you a little detail and some straight lines to follow ending in a moderate curve. I have used Oak here but I am sure that there are a number of woods that would be suitable. When I first saw anything about a
