Woodturning A Triple Loop Celtic Knot Pencil Cup
By: As Wood Turns
June 08, 2018 · 6,896 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com This project video is a second pencil cup to answer this month's club challenge. After I turned the first one, I felt a pencil cup would be perfect for a Celtic knot. The process I follow does not restrict my knots to four loops. The process enables as many loops as could be desired. Eight loops is as easy as four except for the additional cutting and gluing. After turning my wood down to a uniform cylinder, I measured the diameter. At my computer I drew a circle of the same diameter. Since I had decided on three loops, I drew a triangle to enclose the circle. I p

Woodturning A Stave Segmented Pencil Cup From Pen Blanks
By: As Wood Turns
June 01, 2018 · 2,370 views

http://www.AsWoodTurns.com This project video is a pencil cup to answer this month's club challenge. While I could grab a chunk of solid wood, I want to do a segmented work. This time a stave segmentation. My raw material is twelve pen blanks for the staves and some scrap walnut for a bottom and rim. My pencel cup is about five inches tall and almost three inches in diameter, finished with lacquer. Each stave is cut to a trapezoid shape with 75 degree angles on each side. 75 is the complement of 15 degrees. 15 times 2 because it is cut on both sides, 12 staves is a complete circle. I'm looking for a better stave cutting sled for my table saw. Please offer your suggestions. I used a Wixey digital angle finder to set my saw blade. Enjoy! Turning a pen holder part two.

Pen holder part 1
By: Eric Godwin
February 14, 2018 · 120 views

This is part one of a two part video showing how I turn a pen holder. The wood I used for this project is kiln dried cherry. This is a beginner to intermediate project, the difficulty starts with turning the end grain. The key is sharp tools and patience. This would be a great project for people that normally only turn pens, since this can be done on a small lathe. I start sanding with 150 grit sandpaper & finish with 220 grit. I normally don’t go past that on a unitary piece. I used Danish oil with some bees wax for my finish. This is a quick finish & has proven itself in the past.

Spalted Beech Pen Pot - Episode 58
By: Paul Lockwood
February 15, 2017 · 573 views

A very quick project as I needed another pet pot for my desk at work. So I grabbed a piece of the spalted beech, rounded it off, drilled out the majority. The whole piece was sanded down to 600, two coats of sanding sealer, Yorkshire Grit and finished off with two coats of Woodwax 22. Pen Pot With First Ever Captive Ring - Episode 38
By: Paul Lockwood
November 19, 2016 · 2,004 views

My first ever attempt at a captive ring. Just using two pieces of pallet wood (soft wood) that were originally just under 3'x2' glued together to create the blank. Making a simple pen pot on a large blank left plenty of room to try and create a captive ring, especially as the first one didn't work out. The one I ended up with wasn't the best, however it did stay together although not very strong and with a bit of tear out. Which isn't surprising since this is soft wood. The finish was Sanding Sealer and two coats Woodwax 22. Pen Gift Box Review - Gems on Display

Link to the product being reviewed: https://www.gemsondisplay.com/shopexd.asp?id 4666 Note: I do believe that you need to order quantity to get the printing - not just a few. There is currently a pen making supplier who is offering these boxes one at a time at a reasonable price if you only want to try a few. You can find them here: http://www.tennesseepensupply.com/store/p75/Black_Gift_Box.html Link to the other box at Exotic Blanks that I mentioned as similar:https://www.exoticblanks.com/Black-Top-Textured-Cardboard-Pen-Box-No-Insert.html This is a good box as well and I like it, but the price, free shipping and logo possibility makes the gems on display box an amazing value.
