Yo-Yo's

Yo-yo's are great items of amusement. We hesitate to call them toys as they can be very complex and take years to learn all the different moves you can make with one. But they can be toys too! I can't imagine any young person who wouldn't want one to own and play with!

They are also wonderful turning projects. They can be one-piece or two-piece and can be as plain as a single piece of wood or as fancy as your imagination!

How to make a Ball Bearing Yo-YoHow to make a Ball Bearing Yo-Yo by Matthew Owen
Matt starts his photo tutorial explaining how he learned about yo-yo's and how he eventually got into making them. Matt's yo-yo design is based a ball bearing spindle. He explains why the ball bearing is superior for yo-yo quality and the ability to do tricks with them.

Matt explains what parts are necessary, and then shows us how he holds the pieces to be turned on the lathe. He then provides a wonderful diagram of his design to help explain the necessary dimension in order for the ball bearing to work.

Matt shows us each of the steps necessary to create this wonderful ball bearing yo-yo! And then he shows us a wide range of his completed yo-yo's including ones made from Deer Antler, segmented woods and even acrylic.

If you've ever had an interest in yo-yo's, Matt's project will help you realize your dream of making your own!!
