Most turners have seen beautiful furniture made with wonderful spindles. I have seen tables, chairs, bed posts, and many other spindles. I've also seen 1/2 spindles used as trim on many pieces of furniture like dressers and cabinets.
So, don't dismiss making furniture if you want to make something with turning in it!!

This is a set of plans to make a four poster bed. The plans have traceable diagrams and the bed can be sized to fit twin, full or queen mattresses.
The four corner posts must be turned and the foot cross bar is turned too! This is a very nice design and although you have to pay for it, it's really inexpensive!!
In this project, Shopsmith does an excellent job of showing all the aspects of making this four poster bed including the turnings for multi-piece tall spindles at the corners. They give full parts lists, and drawings!
